Description
A finely potted Kraak plate with the characteristic panelled decoration, beautifully painted in soft yet vibrant tones of underglaze cobalt blue. The rim on the front is divided into eight panels, each decorated with flowering plants and lotus leaves, interspersed with narrow panels filled with diamond and dot motifs. The central medallion depicts a pair of pheasants perched on rockwork beside a pine tree and flowering plants, beneath luxuriant curling clouds. The reverse is similarly divided into panels, decorated with alternating lingzhi and insects, with diamond and dot motifs between the panels. The centre bears a rare and finely executed Egret mark. The footrim shows some typical fine kiln grit.
