Pair of Polychrome Rectangular Plaques
Delft, circa 1720
Each painted in blue in the center with a chinoiserie figure seated at a table set with a tall vase of flow ers, and with a second figure standing before a gar-den fence on which a large bird is perched beneath a second bird perched on the flowering branch of a tree peony growing from behind a large rock, the wide self frame molded at the top and bottom with iron-red, blue and ochre pomegranates, on the sides with a large blossom, and at the corners with blue grape clusters, all alternating with green grape leaves against an iron-red ground patterned with yellow-centered blue and white demi-blossoms and foliate scrolls, the top of the rim pierced with a hole for suspension.
