- The scene represents Apollo, the son of Zeus, clearly identifiable by his lyre with which he won numerous musical contests against mortals. Apollo is known for his many loves, but the young woman represented is not clearly identifiable. During the exhibition 'The China Trade' (Royal Pavilion, Brighton, 1986, no. 122), it was suggested that it could be Daphne.
