Lava stone Parvati/Durga figure, Central Java 10th-11th century.
Parvati is usually seen as the main helper, and wife, of Shiva. Shiva and Parvati had two sons together, Ganesha and Skanda. The four of them are often depicted on Mount Kailash. Together with Shiva, Parvati symbolizes the power to create and destroy. Her presence alone was enough to unleash uncontrollable desires in Shiva. However, she also symbolizes marriage, the obedient wife and life as Asceticism. Parvati is also the goddess of beauty and has a particularly voluptuous appearance. There is good evidence of authenticity and age, lime deposits, petrified soil remains, surface patina, remains of painting.
