Mounted with a period Dutch silver cover.

The arms on the front are those of William of Orange, also known as King William III of England.
The texts refer to the Franco-Dutch war, which was ended with the Treaties of Nijmegen in 1678-79.
The jug is to be dated in those years or slightly thereafter.

A closely related inkwell, with the same inscription "Vijva Oranie" as well as the same arms, portrayed in nearly identical manner, was in the famous Loudon collection and is now on display in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, object number BK-NM-12400-79 (link).

Condition:
- The jug with the top rim with some retouching, slightly extending onto the handle where it shows under UV-light, but not extending further than the silver mount.
