A freely translated fragment: "Ceramics expert Paul Peremans (author of the book Torhouts Aardewerk, Lannoo publishers) suspects the piece was made in the second half of the 19th C., by master potter Leo Maes, who was just about to discover the Art Nouveau style. The pearl frieze on the foot does indeed remind us of a folk art version of the Louis XVI style. Both the Gruuthuse Museum in Bruges and the Royal Museum for Arts and History in Brussels have related pieces in their collections."
