An exceptional and high quality Dutch Delft orangist portrait dish with a black-enhanced mixed technique border. One of the rarest orangist Delftware pieces. The central portrait of King Willem 4 shown below the sun, panels left and right with orangist trees. Below the portrait the text "Dees Prins die als de Zon zijn scheijnsel voor maals goef is nu al door De dood van ons gerukt int graft obit den:2:october, anno 1751 begraaven den: 4: februari 1752:" (This Prince who before shined on us like the sun is now already taken from us into the grave, obit the 2nd of October anno 1751, buried the 4th of February 1752) Condition: A restored hairline Size: 34,5 cm A similar but less elaborately painted example is in the Rijksmuseum Collection (inv. BK-NM-12400-193).
