Pair of Blue and White Wall Sconces, Delft, circa 1715-30
Each formed as an elaborate architectural cartouche molded in the center with a convex oval painted with a scene of a peasant leaning on a fence beneath a tree and gazing toward a church in the distance, the oval surrounded by a blue ground reserved with four cherubs and a pair of birds amidst foliate scrolls above a blue loop affixed at the base for a candlearm, the sides molded with foliate scrolls and strapwork supporting foliate finials on the shoulders, and the domed crest surmounted by a scallop shell above a large hole pierced for suspension.
