These two small Delft style earthenware plaques are decorated with portraits of Lamoral, Count of Egmond (1522-1568) and Philip II of Spain (1527-1598), painted in shades of blue on a white background. They bear on their edge the inscriptions 'LAMORALUS COMES DE EGMOND, PRINCEPS GAVERAE FIENNAED. &' and 'PHILIPPUS II, D.G. HISPANIARUM AND INDIARUM REX CATOLICUS ARCH, AVST. ".
These portraits were taken from prints by Johannes Gysius (ca. 1583-1652) dating from 1616, one of which is kept in the library of the Peace Palace in The Hague.
