Origin: By repute, The Palace of Coudenberg, Brussels.

The work is made as an epitaph to Canon Johannes Vanderthomen. The central panel depicting Saint-Christopher carrying the Christ child, flanked by Saint-Michael the Archangel, standing on a dragon and carrying a sword, and Saint-Joseph (?) on his right. The left panel shows Canon Johannes Vanderthommen, with his name saint Saint-John behind him. The right panel bears a Latin text in gilt on a black ground, concerning the will of the Canon. 

Provenance: Acquired from Jacques van Overstraeten, private collector, Brussels, in 1985.

Since then it has been on display in the "Huisje van Majutte", Blankenberge.
