The Calcutta tiger hunt is one of, if not the rarest hunting scene found on Chinese export porcelain in the Qianlong period. Finely painted with the European hunters and their hounds attacking a saber-toothed tiger on a riverbank, the smoke from their guns partially obscuring their prey and a caped onlooker on a porch at the side, the rim with a series of borders enclosing puce vignettes of Western landscapes and famille rose bird and tree shrew roundels
