Dated 1939 and titled 'Portrait de jeune fille' on the back.
Provenance: A Belgian private collection, acquired ca. 1960.
(update 25/09/2018) The painting was found in the attic of a deceased general practicioner in the north-west of Belgium. He had received it as a gift for services rendered. There is no doubt about the authenticity of the work.
Note that the mask on the wall is also present on another work of the artist, titled 'Portrait of a classmate'.
Condition: (UV-checked) (first set of additional images provided was made under UV-light)
- The painting is in very good to excellent condition but would require a good cleaning.
- There is some superficial dirt present, the varnish somewhat yellowed, superficial traces of nicotine and some crackling in small areas.
- The frame in good condition with minor superficial wear.
