The cigarette case features a Russian imperial seal adorned with a diamond and is crafted from 24k gold. It also has a cabochon sapphire-inset push button. The gilt interior bears the maker's mark of Mikhail Perkhin (1860-1903).
Mikhail Perkhin was one of the most prominent workmasters at the House of Fabergé, second only to the famous Michael Evlampievich Perchin. Perkhin was particularly known for his attention to detail and ability to work with various materials, including gold, silver, and enamel. He worked for Fabergé from 1884 until his death in 1903 and was responsible for creating some of the most intricate and luxurious objects, including cigarette cases, jewellery, and the iconic Fabergé eggs.
Ref.: 'Russian Art', Christie's, London, December 2, 2009, for a silver presentation cigarette case from the same maker. (sold GBP 17.500)(link)
